Luke 22:32 “But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brothern.”
All measuring sticks are not created equal… Realizing that the Stanford Achievement and Iowa tests were nationally normed and important for our homeschooling family, I dutifully had these tests administered to my daughter. Because these tests are also based on students that are reading or ha a good grasp of phonics by the age of five, this assessment could not measure the progress that we were making. With our daughter’s not being able to read until the age of nine giving this test only made us feel like failures in the educational world- even though we were making significant progress for our situation.
I have since learned about the Brigance Test that is also nationally normed but measures educational gains differently. It will measure developmental gains and help you develop measurable goals for your students. The Brigance Test is from Florida. This is one booklet for each student for all of their educational years.
I wish I had known about this assessment years ago when we struggled to find appropriate assessment tools for our family. I Pray this information has helped someone today.
